What You'll Do
As a Construction Inspector - Transportation, you will support construction projects from initiation through completion, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications while collaborating with project teams and stakeholders.
- Construction Inspection & Compliance
Perform daily site inspections to verify work complies with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes. - Project Coordination & Communication
Coordinate activities with clients, contractors, consultants, designers, and regulatory agencies to support project progress and compliance. - Documentation & Reporting
Prepare daily inspection reports, including detailed documentation and progress photos. - Schedule & Progress Monitoring
Review contractor schedules and monitor progress to ensure alignment with project timelines. - Change Management & Cost Support
Track potential change order issues, document disputed work, and assist with evaluating and recording changes. - Quantities & Payment Support
Assist with monthly pay estimates, including measuring and documenting quantities for completed work.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in bridge, roadway, highway, or related public works construction inspection
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience with Caltrans projects
- Experience inspecting public works for local agencies, municipalities, or utilities
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
- Ability to work on-site in active construction environments, including walking uneven terrain, climbing, and working in varying weather and site conditions
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: Prevailing wage for San Diego is $63.96/hour
