Firestopping/3rd Party Building Inspector

Compensation: $40-50/hour (DOE + certifications)
Location: Denver, CO
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Full-time | Local travel to job sites required


What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform firestop inspections in accordance with IBC Chapter 17, ASTM E2174/E2393, NFPA 101, and UL system requirements.
  • Inspect fire-rated assemblies in commercial, industrial, healthcare (hospital/clinic), school (K–12, higher education), and institutional construction.
  • Review and verify:
    • Wood and light-gauge metal framing
    • Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical firestopping
    • Roof penetrations and assemblies
    • EIFS and building envelope tie-ins
    • Screw patterns and fastener inspections
    • Intumescent coatings – dry film thickness (DFT) verification

Firestop observation of various methods based on the manufacturer.

  • Conduct site walks and document deviations or non-conformances.
  • Review UL / Intertek firestop assembly details and verify tested system compliance.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with CMT project manager, general contractors, subcontractors, AHJs, owners, and engineers of record.
  • Submit accurate daily inspection reports with photos and supporting documentation.
  • Enforce and follow strict jobsite safety requirements per OSHA and CMT standards.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in firestop inspections, building envelope inspections, or QA/QC construction roles.
  • Ability to read construction plans, submittals, and firestop drawings.
  • Familiarity with fire-rated wall, floor, and joint assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of IBC and Colorado building practices.
  • Strong communication and professional client interaction skills.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Certifications

These reflect recognized industry standards accepted by Colorado GCs, EPCs, and AHJs.

  • IFC Firestop Special Inspector Certification (highly valuable)
  • ASTM E2174/E2393 Firestop Inspection Training Certification
  • UL Qualified Firestop Program (QFCP) Certification or Intertek Firestop Training
